Techno Witch Catalyst is the latest legend to join the Apex Games and the first mutant character to join the Apex Legends Battle Royale cast. The story is closely related to Broken Moon, an upcoming map in Season 15 called Eclipse.

Catalyst is a defensive hero that uses magnetic fluids to simulate dark magic abilities. In a virtual event attended by The Washington Post, Respawn Entertainment shared the background of Catalyst, how Catalyst was created with input from GLAAD consultants, and detailed its capabilities.

Each legend in Apex Legends is designed to have a certain atmosphere. If the catalyst were in a high school cafeteria, it would be a socially awkward but confident goth girl giving crystal readings and talking about the phases of the moon. It seems to be a neo-pagan industrial factor that combines safety devices with a new age aesthetic.

"Catalyst is what I call kind of a big sister," says Ashley Reed, star of Apex Legends. "This is not stupidity and it doesn't require stupidity from anyone. He occasionally tries to prank other legends, but tends to fail in hilarious ways.

During the development of the Catalyst character, Reed said the team took several steps to ensure that the character of the trans woman was done "honestly and truthfully."

“We've said for a long time how important photography is at Apex, and we have a very diverse staff, and we especially want a very diverse staff,” Reid said.

Respawn is working with trans advisors at GLAAD, a media organization that monitors LGBT portrayals. Respawn also worked with Catalyst voice actor Mellie Grant and the company's in-house LGBT group to create Legend's background. The phrase "Tech Witch," which has become the guiding principle of the Catalyst design team, was suggested through cross-consultation. This kind of input is important for building new characters, Reid says.

Catalyze was born in Boreas, the same world as her fellow legend, Sir Outcast. Seer's birth coincided with an asteroid disaster that destroyed Cleo, the moon of Boreas, and destroyed the planet's atmosphere. After Catalyst witnesses his best friend Margot sacrifice herself to destroy a facility believed to be draining Cleo's resources, he decides to make the Moon his home and join a local recovery team working to repair the damage. for:

Working at Cleo's Foundry (which will be the location of the playable Broken Moon) Catalyst develops his fighting skills. It uses magnetofluid, a magnetic liquid metal that already exists in real life and is commonly used as gaskets or dampers in electronics. The catalyst's ferrofluid application felt like black magic running through his hands.

Due to its passive barrier capabilities, the Catalyst can coat doors with magnetizing fluid to make them twice as resistant to binding damage. Catalyst-reinforced doors can only be opened or closed by teammates. Catalyst can also rebuild broken doors.

His tactical ability, piercing spikes, casts a shadow over molten iron on the ground that explodes in a series of spikes when an enemy approaches, damaging and slowing enemies. The blade bolt can only be removed by approaching an enemy, so it can be used to initiate combat or cover choke points.

The last skill that completes Catalyst's set is his newest skill, Dark Veil. The Dark Veil forms a wall of molten iron that blocks vision but does not prevent players from walking, driving, or shooting through it. Enemies trying to walk past the wall will be slowed and partially blinded. The wall also blocks most stealth abilities like Bloodhound's Father of All Eyes.

"It's a great tool to break up the battlefield and get a little extra confidence to heal or revive a clutch," says O.T. Harrison, Respawn's character designer and lead software engineer.

For the perfect team build, Respawn suggested Catalyst team up with Legends, who also specialize in negations like Caustic and Watson. High action legends like Octane and Pathfinder can use Dark Veil for surprise attacks. If you encounter enemy triggers, you can use the same Mobile Legends to counter Dark Veil. Any Catalyst upgrades for doors with barriers can still be cut off with gunfire and explosives.

Catalyst will be playable when Apex Legends. Eclipse" will be released on November 1st. In the later story of the game, the Apex Games reach out to Cleo after the local government agrees to host the tournament in exchange for financial assistance. Motivated, angry that corporate interests are now threatening the reclamation work he and his fellow settlers have been doing, he enters the game with the goal of using the prize money to help his people. This puts her on a direct collision course with Cyner, the legend who brought Cleo to the Apex Games.
