Tecno Phantom X2 Review

Tecno Phantom X2 Review

entry

Since we recently reviewed the Phantom X2 Pro, we assume that most of our readers are familiar with the Tecno brand. However, we will give you some notes about rocks. Tecno Transsion is one of the brands of the Chinese tech giant. It is mainly used in foreign markets and especially in Africa. If you've heard of Tecno, you're probably familiar with their Camon line, a line of low-cost devices that focus on camera performance. However, there is also the Phantom line, which is roughly divided into separate units. It aims to provide original tools and expressive experiences.

Last year the original Phantom X was released and now the Phantom X2 series is out. It consists of two devices: the Pro we reviewed and the Vanilla Phantom X2 model we currently have in our office.

Phantom X2 Tech Review Left: Phantom X2 Pro • Right: Phantom X2

The Phantom X2 family still lives up to the legacy of its predecessors, but overall fits into Tecno's truly premium space. Like its Pro sibling, the Phantom X2 has an attractive premium design and flagship internals with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, a curved AMOLED display and a large battery.

Tecno Phantom X2 specifications at a glance:

  • Body: 164.6x72.7x8.9mm, 203g; Front glass (Gorilla Glass Victus), aluminum frame, plastic back.
  • Screen: 6.80" AMOLED, 120Hz, 1080x2400 resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, 387 ppi.
  • Chipset : MediaTek Dimensity 9000 (4nm): 8 cores (1 x 3.05 GHz Cortex-X2, 3 x 2.85 GHz Cortex-A710 and 4 x 1.80 GHz Cortex-A510); Mali-G710 MC10.

  • Battery: 5160 mAh; Cable 45W, 54% in 20 minutes, 100% in 60 minutes (advertised).
  • Various: fingerprint scanner (under the screen, optical); NFC FM radio, recording.

These features are common to the Vanilla and Pro models. Actually, a lot. While building the low-end Phantom X2, Tecno decided to keep its Pro sibling as intact as possible. The two phones are almost identical in terms of visuals and features. Notably, the vanilla Phantom X2 Pro lacks a retractable telephoto lens.

However, on the regular Phantom X2, it clearly excels in photography. There's a large 64MP main camera with OIS, along with a 13MP wide-angle camera with autofocus and a large 32MP selfie camera.

Packaging

Before we get into the camera differences or anything else about the Phantom X2, we should take a look at the retail packaging. Like its sibling, the Vanilla model comes in a large, sturdy cardboard box that can be removed.

Phantom X2 Tech Review

The box is full of accessories, which is always great. In no particular order, apart from the phone, we also find a 45W charger and an included USB Type A to Type C cable in the box. The cable looks original, no extra pins or anything, so it's easy to replace if needed. The package also includes a nice pair of headphones with a built-in microphone.

Finally, Tecno has presented you with a challenging task. It looks and feels great, and overall it's superior to almost any other case we're used to seeing. It also has a built-in buffer as a bonus feature.

Overall, Tecno has put a lot of effort into the retail packaging of the Phantom X2. It's hard to complain about all the extra stuff you get in the box.
