Poole Residents Kept Awake By 'awful Drum And Bass Techno' Music

In the early hours of Sunday, October 16, teens took over the abandoned Oakdale Higher Education Center.

It is believed the locked building was entered through the roof before a group of people played "terrible techno drum and bass" until 3.30am.

One local resident, who did not want to be named but lives in a block of flats in Wimborne Road overlooking the square, said the music seemed to go on "forever".

He added: “The music started playing at around 11.45pm on Saturday and it was deafening so I stuck my head out the window.

“I was given a warm welcome at the play centre, so I called 101 and the police came. The sirens went off and the music started playing.

Police said they may have entered through the roof because the tightly sealed windows were intact.

“The police said there was nothing they could do because entering the center through the roof was dangerous.”

The woman said music was played shortly after police left until 3.30am, adding that the "horrible" music was coming from a loud sound system and that the criminals were using "proper" equipment.

“I'm tired of no one being able to do anything. We are taxpayers, so why can't the police or the council do anything about it? - he added.

Another resident added that anti-social behavior had become a “problem” in the area and that he had also heard loud music in the early hours of the morning.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received reports of a disturbance at a vacant property on Dorchester Road, Poole at 11.58pm on Saturday 15 October 2022.

"Officers attended and no criminal offense was discovered. Those attending were notified of the noise levels and first informants were given instructions on how to contact local authorities."

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “We are investigating reports of squatters breaking into the former Oakdale Adult Education Center building and are working closely with our agency partners to investigate reports of anti-social behaviour.”

“Following the assessment, the housing team will ensure that the building is safe and secure. A public consultation on the future use of the site will begin in summer 2022 and all options will be considered.”
