Oppos Find N2 Flip Gets CoverScreen OS Support That Make Its Outer Display More Capable

Oppo's recently launched vertically folding phone, the Find N2 Flip, features a large 3.2-inch folding screen, making it more useful than the external screens on competing phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. However, the size of his is bigger. than normal, your cover screen is functionally quite limited. Unlike Motorola's Razr 2022, you can't scale apps to use on the home screen. Now, third-party app developer CoverScreen OS, which previously added support for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, has added support for Oppo's latest Find N2 Flip and aims to fix these limitations and improve the cover screen for use.

The developer announced the support via a post on the XDA forums, where it also explained the features available for the Oppo Find N2 Flip cover screen. As with the developer's previous implementation for Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4, the external display of the foldable device can now be used as a "mini phone."

CoverScreen OS adds a cover launcher for the external screen, essentially giving you your own home screen and app drawer. It also allows users to use any third party application widget as if it were running on the home screen of the smartphone. The developer has also added more quick toggles. These are also quite customizable. The launcher/app also brings navigation gestures to the Oppo Find N2 Flip's front screen, as well as an area to display notifications. Just like a normal home screen, media can also be viewed in full screen. The developer has added controls to the media player and users can view multiple sessions and also search for clips or videos.

If that wasn't enough, there's also language support for typing along with a full QWERTY keyboard and a T9 keyboard. However, since the Oppo Find N2 Flip's flip screen is arranged vertically, the phone needs to be turned on its side to use the QWERTY layout.

In the post, the developer explains that the CoverScreen OS launcher also works on Oppo's default launcher, so users still have access to the normal default system hotkeys and widgets. The app is currently under development but can be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store.

The Oppo Find N2 Flip launched worldwide in December 2022 alongside the larger Find N2. Out of the two, only Find N2 Flip has hit global markets and it was recently launched in India at Rs 89,999. Clamshell Foldable offers a vertically foldable inner screen with a new hinge design that minimizes wrinkles. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC and offers dual cameras on the back and a hole-punch selfie camera on the internal display.
