A music venue has said it is "heartbroken" after a 21-year-old woman died at an event.

The basement on Boot Street in Cardiff was hosting a techno music event with DJ and producer Azir on Friday evening when the woman fell ill in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“During the event, there was concern about a person who was immediately taken to a doctor for treatment.

“South Wales Ambulance Service arrived within minutes to assist our paramedics, but unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man died.

“We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of this man and offer our continued support at this difficult time.

“We would like to thank staff at South Wales Police, South Wales Ambulance Service, SEMS, Vaults and Rubicon Security for their fantastic efforts.

“Safety as a venue is our top priority and we will continue to enforce our strict policies at future events.”

The event scheduled for Saturday night was canceled due to the incident.

South Wales Police said they were investigating the matter and explained: “Police in Cardiff continue to investigate the sudden and unexplained death of a 21-year-old woman who fell ill during a concert in Butetown in the early hours of Saturday morning.”
