Garbage truck full of bloatware

I've been writing over the phone for over a decade. If you look at my work, you will notice the growing discontent.

Time made me hard. Even jade. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't rouse myself. Fortunately, the content of this review goes against this trend.

Today we are reviewing the Infinix Zero Ultra. Infinix isn't a household name in the US, but this device is sleek enough to pique my interest.

Quick judgement

Infinix Zero Ultra is a great phone. Of course, the camera quality isn't the best and it doesn't offer flagship performance. On the other hand, the screen is excellent. The 180W fast charging is just a game changer. It's cool. It's incredible.

Of course, I'd be disheartened if I only cared about nostalgia or lightning-fast loading speeds. The whole package matters.

And while I'll make my point in a second, I'm very pleased with the Infinix Zero Ultra's performance. It's a great phone worth considering.

In terms of price, it is in the middle of the Android market. The Infinix Zero Ultra may not be bargain basement, but it's still affordable.

If you factor in the exchange rate, it will cost about $500, more or less.

When it comes to glasses, Infinix has a colorful mix of products.

The model reviewed by KnowTechie had a generous 13GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, although it looked a bit odd with the MediaTek Dimensity 920.

We regularly see high-end Qualcomm and MediaTek silicon in devices in this price range and we'd like to see something similar here.

Slices

To be fair, the MediaTek Dimensity 920 is no slouch. Sure, it's not the fastest chipset in the world, but it's still capable.

It will handle everything you throw at it, from gaming to social media. It doesn't disappoint, but it doesn't offer the comfortable speed of more powerful platforms.

Maybe it just got lost or maybe the line between flagship and ship is so blurred that our expectations don't match.

Battery life and charging

As mentioned earlier, the Infinix Zero Ultra has 180W fast charging, which is the fastest charging speed in the market.

After using this device for the past few weeks, it's hard to imagine going back to 12W fast charging for the iPhone 12.

Fast charging is no joke

You can charge your phone from empty to full in the shower. You will get to the first half in four minutes. This effectively eliminates the whole concept of battery problems.

You can charge your phone pretty well if you have a few minutes and an outlet. I know I write for a living, but it's hard to say how great it really is.

The Zero Ultra technically contains two batteries

Infinix achieved this by repurposing a strategy used by other smartphone vendors. The Zero Ultra technically contains two batteries that together charge at 90 watts each.

This method is used on devices from OnePlus 8T to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But he has a drawback.

Using two separate batteries will reduce your total capacity.

The space occupied by the anode and cathode accommodates the battery pack and power management circuit redundancy.

This is why the Infinix Zero Ultra has a 4,500 mAh battery. Of course, it's a matter of value. But it's slightly smaller than expected considering the phone has a 6.8-inch display.

Battery life is average

Infinix Zero Ultra lasts all day but with little power reserve. Fortunately, this is not a big problem.

When the battery runs low, connect the phone to the included charger and you'll be ready for the rest of the day

I'll be honest, the Infinix Zero Ultra is an impressive piece of engineering. It's a nice phone. Nicer than you would reasonably expect in its price range.

The 6.8-inch screen delivers exceptional levels of brightness and color accuracy. It uses an AMOLED panel (1080 x 2500) with a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz.

The screen itself is curved. This is one of the smartphone design options that I don't really like.

Sure, it looks great, but only if it's without the protective casing.

Curved screen 👎

In addition, curved screens are often more difficult to replace than their flat-screen counterparts, with higher replacement costs. Simply put, it looks good, but it has undeniable compromises.

A metal bracket keeps the screen nearly bezel-less and leads to the rear housing.

As with the Samsung Galaxy FE20, Infinix opted for a plastic back. But it doesn't look cheap. Its unusual textured pattern gives this phone an unmistakable aesthetic.

camera

The cameras are some of the widest I've seen and look more like a Silvani family painting than anything else.

It also bulges and protrudes awkwardly from the phone's back cover.

sensor

The aforementioned 200MP primary shooter uses a Sony ISOCELL HP1 sensor placed above a secondary 13MP ultra-wide lens. On the right side you'll find a more traditional 2MP macro sensor.

Sure, 200MP sounds like a lot. But like other high-density cameras, the Infinix Zero uses ultra-pixel binning technology. Here, smaller pixels are grouped into a larger virtual pixel.

There is a good reason for that. By definition, small pixels absorb less light than large pixels. This becomes a problem when you shoot at night.

image quality

In terms of image quality, the Infinix Zero Ultra doesn't impress, but neither does it.

Photos were of acceptable quality on social media, but couldn't compete with a high-end flagship phone or a proper DSLR.

Infinix Zero Ultra is a great phone. Of course, the camera quality isn't the best and it doesn't offer flagship performance.

And in case you were wondering, yes, it comes with a truckload of bloatware that will no doubt annoy anyone cleaning Android installations.

But it's also practical in a way that's hard to ignore. The screen is excellent. The 180W fast charging is just a game changer. It's cool. It's incredible.

An important aspect

  • Supports 180W fast charging

In the time it takes to brew a coffee machine, you can get by with an empty load of 50%.

  • 200 MP large main camera

It's not necessarily unique, but it's rare enough to be interesting.

  • Nostalgic corner

Infinix used to be Sagem, the mobile giant of the 2000s. I had a Sagem phone in high school.

Despite Infinix's French roots, the company hasn't had much retail success in Europe or the United States. If you want to restore one, you must enter it.

Fortunately, unlike some China-only devices I've reviewed in the past, you can pre-install the necessary Android apps from Google.

Infinix continues to dominate the entire Asian market, slowly and tentatively moving west.

Consider alternative options

If you're looking for something right now and don't have the time or inclination to wait for import, you have options

Xiaomi 11T Pro is available in Europe at almost the same price as the Zero Ultra.

It offers equally impressive fast charging speeds, although it benefits from a slightly larger battery and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G chipset.

For those in the US, the OnePlus 10 Pro will meet your immediate shipping needs, but at a slightly higher cost.

Where do you get the Infinix Zero Ultra?

If you decide to get the Infinix Zero Ultra, you can buy it directly from the company's website for around $500.

US buyers can pick up the phone from retailers like AliExpress for around the same price.

reevaluation

Infinix Zero Ultra

I am very satisfied with the performance of the Infinix Zero Ultra. The phone screen is excellent. The fast delivery is amazing. Feels soft and clean. It's a great phone worth considering.
