The KZN Techno Hub is expected to boost investor confidence in the province.

The KZN Provincial Government has positioned the Port Shepstone Techno Hub as a technology engine to create jobs and skills that will benefit other sectors in the KZN South Coast region.

The state government said in a statement that the factory, which will be built on a 20-hectare land, is completing the first phase of construction. In addition to its investment potential, the factory is expected to attract young digital workforce.

This means KZN is well on its way to becoming a tech powerhouse, moving to replace the Western Cape as SA's "tech hub".

The Port Shepstone Techno Hub, managed by the state government in partnership with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, is the first of four hubs set up to stimulate the region's economy by providing a co-working space for investors and entrepreneurs.

In the year The state government said the four centers, which were first announced in 2014, are part of the state government's campaign to make SN an early adopter of the technology.

Felisa Mangku, Chief Executive Officer for South Coast Tourism and Investment, the official tourism authority of South Coast KZN, pointed out that Port Shepstone Techno Hub is an investment in the development of the fourth industrial revolution.

“We are proud that KZN South Coast has been selected as one of the prime locations for the development of the Techno Centre, a development investment that will undoubtedly benefit the youth.

This will bring great investment potential to South Coast KZN and attract a young digital workforce willing to research, implement and test new ideas that can benefit the region and the country. As the commercial and administrative center of the KZN South Coast, there are now even more reasons for individuals and organizations to consider setting up shop here.

According to Mangku, the four centers will form part of the East Coast Development Initiative, which aims to unlock economic potential in the Eastern Cape and KZN.

The Techno Center precinct consists of five land use zones, including Light Industrial/Commercial, Techno/Hotel/Convention Center, Mixed Use Residential and Mixed Use Commercial.

The first phase of the project includes the completion of fencing and an administrative building including three training rooms and meeting rooms.

According to Mangcu, the location has garnered a lot of interest from investors, such as the Radisson Hotel Group - a US hospitality multinational - that has already attracted the attention of investors committed to the center.

In addition to investment potential, the Port Shepstone Techno Hub provides valuable expertise to benefit other sectors in manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics and the agri-food industry.

"It's not just about job creation, it's about creating a productive space where entrepreneurial minds can come together and collaborate on new ideas and projects," Mangku added.

"The Port Shepstone Techno Hub has the potential to drive social and economic growth, competitiveness and growth in the region in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
