Mathame Gear Up For Ultra Debut With Emphatic Confidence: ‘Mathame Will Be Mathame [Q&A]
Mathami confidently prepares for his super debut.

Melodic techno is on the rise, and methams are at the forefront of a fast-growing movement. The duo of Italian brothers received well-deserved attention in the techno field. After recent sold-out concerts in Zurich, Beirut and Belgrade, Matam is finally ready to showcase his talent at American festivals. Debuting in Ultra Miami, Mathame will play alongside the massive RESISTANCE hulk in a packed Sunday lineup. Dancing Astronauts 2023 - Hereafter - Matham has recently turned its attention to American label Astralworks. Four singles are already on the rise and Mathami has just released their new debut album.

After Ultra Miami, Metham will travel to California, where the duo will perform for the first time at Coachella, one of the largest music festivals in the United States. After spending a second day in the Yuma tent, Matam will once again have the opportunity to share his signature blend of melodic psychedelic techno, this time on the opposite coast. With so much anticipation to look forward to, the dancing astronaut had the opportunity to sit down with Matt for a broad conversation about what comes next.

2023 marked your Ultra Miami debut. Although you've met the RESISTANCE group all over the world, what's special about playing in the home of Ultra Music Festival?

Mathematics . "We are so excited. This is a truly legendary sight. We live in a small town near Milan, and when the line-up was announced, we told all our old friends:

What can we expect from your Ultra Collection? Playing in the middle of the day, why should someone who is not familiar with harmonic technology resist?

Matami . “We always try to tune our sound to the environment, it doesn't mean we adapt or change, but we do try to tune the environment. You can definitely expect to hear more hits from our upcoming album and some new tunes from new artists who are already on the scene. In our opinion, this is one of the The best opportunities to discover great artists who may not be famous in the U.S. This is definitely the time for techno and melodic genres. The word has matured because it has been around for over a decade, but people still crave it, so it can definitely open the door to a new experience for the audience.

Your last three singles have been great success for both of you. While Camelfat's "Believe" is in the traditional melodic style, "So What" and "Come For You" are completely unique. How have you changed things in particular in these two songs?

Matami . "It's never a conscious decision to change the sound process or methodology. Let's start with the philosophy. For example, for 'Believe,' we wanted a strong, old-school sound to work with that kind of bass. [On] 'Come for You,'" he prayed in a vision of heaven. Lonely Night." So what" was supposed to express our idea of hard technique. We always start with a vision trying to put it into words."

Your music has been described by some as the most soulful in the Afterlife lineup. "So What" has dark and dreamy synths that give it a kind of experimental structure. Was it one of your favorite songs so far?

Matami . We're fans of and very much inspired by the '60s and '70s sound, so thanks for that description. 'So What' is one of our favourites. We wanted to find a balance between our harsh sound and something psychedelic [and] spooky, so the track is short, [four] legs Just. We think it's a good balance."

Being so deeply rooted in Afterlife, what brought you to the American Astralworks label for your next project?

Matami . "It was a tough choice, but we've done three EPs on the same label, so it's time to continue our story. It was a strategic decision to increase American market penetration. Throughout the history of music, many associations with a band or company only work out." If you were the leader. The only thing that made us make this shift was: A Mutama will be an Mutama. We are not tied to one label.” Astralwerks have great vision, they are melodic first and foremost. Realized techno potential. They have a great, knowledgeable team working for them and great resources, so why not? After all, a tag is a platform and a point of control. Sometimes during production, people make certain choices for the right label. But at the end of the day, a brand is just a platform."

How do you plan to communicate differently with the American public as Astralworks expands its presence in your state?

Matami . "Our music is very yin and yang, it balances two elements like melody and power, or like love and hate. There is] a US market and that's one of the reasons we love Astralwerks because it's connected to the US. We've played many big plays in the US like EDC and received a lot. of letters from the American public".

Besides Ultra, where can we see you for the rest of Music Week and beyond?

Matami . “During Music Week, we will be playing Afterlife on March 22nd and Ultra on March 26th. We are also very excited about Coachella.”
