Smartphone charging technology is getting ridiculous. Realme recently unveiled a 240W charging speed that can fully charge a 4600mAh battery in nine and a half minutes. Realme's rival Xiaomi has also announced that its sub-brand Redmi is working on the same technology. But to increase the charging speed, the company is increasing the charging speed to 300W to fully charge the 4100mAh battery in less than 5 minutes.

According to Android Authority, Redmi has showcased its charging technology on Chinese social media app Weibo. The Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, a smartphone with a 4100mAh battery, features 300W charging technology. The phone was designed for this test as the original Note 12 Discovery Edition had a 4300mAh battery. It also supports ridiculous download speeds.

The video claims that the upgraded Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition gets a 50 percent charge in around 3 minutes and a full battery in 5 minutes. The maximum charging speed is 290.6 W, which is less than 300 W.

Redmi calls it a 300W Immortal secondary charger, which is different from the 120W Hypercharge technology on some Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. Interestingly, the original Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition has a 4,300mAh battery with support for 210W fast wireless charging, as the phone has three 100W fast charging ports, allowing you to charge your phone in less than 10 minutes. The phone will be launched in China in October 2022.

Fast charging is becoming commonplace, at least among Chinese smartphone makers. While Apple and Samsung smartphones don't have 65W charging yet, brands like OnePlus, iQOO, Xiaomi and Realme charge at least 80W in their mid-range budget offerings. For premium phones above Rs 40,000, most phones are equipped with at least a 100W charger that can fully charge the phone in 30 minutes (with a 4500 mAh battery).

As mentioned, Realme showcased its 240W charging technology at MWC 2023. Super fast charging technology is supported by the new Realme GT 3 with a 4600mAh battery. The Realme device can be fully charged in 9 and a half minutes, making it one of the fastest smartphone chargers on the market. The launch details of the Realme GT3 in India are not clear, but the company has already teased that it has arrived in the country. On the other hand, Xiaomi has not made it clear whether 300W fast charging will be available soon for any commercial models. It also featured some charging technology (like Mi Air Charge), but it's not yet available to regular customers.
