In the battleground of budget phones, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus might not be the most obvious choices, but they still get the job done. But can they compete with the competition? We will check it.
For all intents and purposes, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus are almost identical, barring a few chassis tweaks and minor tweaks here and there. Ditching the plastic back of many of its predecessors really helps the Spark 20 Pro series. Both phones have elegant curved bezels with a choice of attractive colors. I'm a big fan of the shimmery Sunset Blush, but the eco-friendly (read: faux leather) version of Magic Skin 2.0 Green also deserves praise. Durability is not forgotten because this phone has IP53 waterproof feature. The box also comes with a protective sleeve to keep the item in its original condition.

This series of phones is focused on large displays and considering the price, it does not disappoint in this area. The Spark 20 Pro comes with an LCD screen, while the Pro Plus has a premium but still very impressive AMOLED panel with vibrant colors and a very smooth 120Hz refresh rate.
One thing I want to point out about this display has to do with perforation. Whatever the reason, Tecno decided to try and integrate it into the user interface, mimicking the Dynamic Island integration we see on recent iPhones. On this Tecno phone it's used for simpler things like charge monitoring and that's fine, but it doesn't seem to fit the Android version of the Tecno, especially since the hole is so small.

Despite the apparent luxury and abundance of high-end trim, what's underneath does little to make up for the asking price. The Spark 20 Pro uses the MediaTek Helio G99, while the Pro Plus comes with the Helio G99 Ultimate chip. Personally, I don't notice any difference in data performance, given that the new model is supposed to have an SoC upgrade, but both phones have 8GB of RAM to keep things running smoothly. Multitasking is smooth and gaming is lag-free, even with most 3D titles, though it's certainly nowhere near the level of the most powerful Android flagships.

Although the camera systems are different, the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and 20 Pro Plus have a 108-megapixel primary sensor that captures sharp details and rich colors even in challenging lighting conditions. Both phones are perfectly competent in almost every situation, but without the real wow factor and without competing with the best in the industry.
Tecno hasn't spared any extras for the devices either. You get dual speakers that produce immersive sound, there's also a 5,000mAh battery to keep you going all day and more, and there's a 33W wired fast charge that will charge your device in no time. In addition, there is also an integrated microSD memory card slot if you need more storage space.
While the specs look pretty good, there are some important trade-offs. These models don't have 5G, which is a bit of a disappointment. The camera also lacks a dedicated telephoto zoom, but at this price, that's a problem. What doesn't matter is that right now I can't find any information about the software update policy, which is a bit vague and worrying if you plan to keep it for a long period of time.

The Tecno Spark 20 Pro and Pro Plus offer a great display, a competent camera and super-smooth performance, all wrapped in a sleek, durable package. If you're on a tight budget but don't want to compromise on quality, this phone should be at the top of your shopping list. There's no denying that the Tecno Spark 20 Pro and Pro Plus are budget champs that punch well above their weight. The only problem might be getting it, as the phone will only launch in Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
